The town of Kazanlak is situated in the centre of Bulgaria. It' s a famous ancient and cultural centre, combining at the same time the atmosphere of centuries - old traditions, modern architecture and Europeen appearance. The municipality of Kazanlak, with an area of 780 square kilometers, is located in the Kazanlak valley between the Stara Planina and the Sredna Gora mountains in central Bulgaria. The Kazanlak valley is internationally known for its oil-bearing roses. Kazanlak's municipality includes the towns of Kazanlak, with a population of 71 073, the town of Shipka and eighteen villages with a population of 24980. The Tundra River extends lengthwise across the Kaznaluk valley feeding the Koprinka Dam Lake. The excavated ruins of the ancient Roman town of Sevtopolis, named for the Thracian Czar Sevt II, lies just below the waters of Koprinka. There are approximately 1500 sepulchral hills in the Kazanlak region and nine Thracian tombs in close proximity to the town of Kazanlak. Two of these tombs, uncovered in 1993 at the Ostrusha Hill, are considered important in the archeological community- the Kazanlak Tomb (late fourth to early third century B.C.) and the Shipka Tomb Mausoleum. Warm mineral springs near the villages of Ovosthnik, Yagoda and Pavel Banaya in the Kazanlak area, attract national and international tourists to partake of the soothing medicinal waters and enjoy the natural surroundings. These waters are rich in minerals and taste providing the potential investor with opportunities for successful bottling and exporting and an avenue for tourism development. While the transitional-continental climate produces an average temperature of 1 degree C. in January, July temperatures average 21 degrees C. The Kazanlak municipality territory extends 551 251 decars and divides as follows: living area 21 280 decars; agricultural area 304 207 decars and forested area 222 764 decars. Covering about 50% of the area are maroon-forest type and meadow-maroon type soils which are extremely suitable for the cultivation of essential oil plants. Although, many industry branches are represented within the town of Kazanlak, the rose growing area between Klisur and Kazanlak produces seventy percent of the world's attar - or extract of roses. Considering that fragrance manufacturers pay more than $45 million dollars annually for this oil, it would be considered the key component of the economic sector. Every May thorough early June the Valley of the Roses is magically transformed into a sea of beauty with a glorious scent and fields of color as far as the eye can see. The Museum of the Rose Industry is located there. The Rose Festival attracts numerous national and international tourists. The town of Kazanlak is located in an area accessible to national and international tourists. The Shipka and Haimboaz Passes, through the Stara Planina mountains, provide a direct connection with Northern Bulgaria. The Sofia - Burgas highway, through Stara Zagora, offers direct east-west access with frequent railway service available.
